Our Mission
The Funding Portal is a joint initiative of the Department of Municipal Affairs and the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities. Our mission is simple: make finding and applying for grants easy and efficient — so you can focus on building stronger communities.
How It All Started
In 2023, municipalities across Nova Scotia were missing out on funding opportunities because information was scattered across multiple websites and deadlines were hard to track. To solve this, NSFM and the Department of Municipal Affairs created the Fund Navigator role.
What began as a basic spreadsheet quickly grew into a comprehensive Municipal Funding Database, launched on the NSFM website in October 2023. With over 100 programs listed, it quickly became one of the most visited sections of the site, drawing thousands of views and positive feedback.
The new Funding Portal is the next evolution — faster, smarter, and designed to do even more.
Who Developed the Portal and Why?
The original database was created by NSFM’s first Fund Navigator, who recognized municipalities needed more than a grant list. They needed a clear, organized, and regularly updated resource. Our first Fund Navigator’s work laid the foundation for today’s portal — a modern tool built for municipalities and community partners.
Based on feedback from users, the new portal was developed. You asked for an easier, more searchable tool and NSFM has delivered!
