The Commemorate Canada component supports commemorative initiatives that help Canadians recognize significant aspects of Canadian history, increase understanding of Canada’s shared history and participate in commemorative activities of national significance.
Eligible projects must be conceived and take place in Canada, relate to an anniversary of national significance, mark a 25th, 50th, 75th, 100th or subsequent 25-year anniversary, include an educational component, be national in scope, and be free and accessible to the public.
Projects may include educational and outreach activities, research and documentation, travelling or online exhibits, forums and conferences, commemorative plaques and monuments, promotional and communications activities, and events.
Only project-related expenses are eligible.
Eligible expenses may include education and outreach, communications, professional fees, events and venues, and project-related administration up to 15% of the total contribution.
Plaques and monuments are eligible up to $10,000.
Major infrastructure, land purchases, ongoing operations, fairs and festivals, lobbying, advocacy and fundraising are ineligible.
Total government assistance cannot exceed 100% of eligible project costs.
Funding is highly competitive, and an eligible application does not guarantee funding.
