Description

The Community Anniversaries component of Building Communities through Arts and Heritage provides funding to local groups for non-recurring local events commemorating significant anniversaries, with or without a minor capital project. The program supports community celebrations that present local artists, artisans, heritage performers and cultural carriers while actively involving community members.

Program Objectives:

  • Commemorate significant local historical events or personalities
  • Present work of local artists, artisans, heritage performers or specialists
  • Showcase local First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultural carriers
  • Actively involve members of local community
  • Provide events intended for and accessible to general public
  • Support minor capital projects and commemorative items related to anniversaries

Eligible Anniversaries:

Funding available for non-recurring events marking the 100th anniversary or greater, in increments of 25 years (e.g., 100th, 125th, 150th, 175th, 200th) of a significant local historical event or personality.

Eligible Activities:

Events and projects may include:

  • Community celebrations and commemorative events
  • Performances featuring local artists and heritage performers
  • Activities showcasing First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultural carriers
  • Community art projects
  • Restoration of objects
  • Community history books
  • Statues and murals
  • Other commemorative items and capital projects (up to maximum $25,000)

Important Notes:

  • Requests for funding consistently exceed available resources
  • Submitting application does not guarantee funding
  • Amount requested may not be amount awarded
  • Events must occur during calendar year following application deadline
