Description

The Trail Maintenance Grant is designed to support not-for-profit community groups who are involved in regular maintenance, as well as emergency funding to groups who have experienced major trail damage due to fire, flooding and hurricanes.

The program supports three main types of projects:

Regular Maintenance Projects include re-surfacing, addressing drainage issues, brush cutting, replacing or repairing signage, repairing or replacing bollards, gates, turnstiles, fencing and maintaining amenities such as washrooms, picnic tables, benches, gazebos and garbage cans. Equipment acquisition for maintenance including shovels, rakes, bush hogs and chainsaws is also eligible.

Aging Infrastructure Projects include replacing or maintaining bridge decking, railings, superstructure, replacing culverts and repairing groomers or other equipment.

Catastrophic Event Funding addresses environmental or man-made disasters that threaten trail continuity due to extensive infrastructure damage, including replacement of bridges or bridge components, culverts, trail surfaces, supporting materials and removal of fallen trees or debris.
