The Climate Ready Infrastructure Support (CRIS) program provides eligible fire departments and municipalities with access to free technical consulting services to support planned or active infrastructure projects.

Through the National Fire Department Cohort, participating fire departments receive one-on-one technical support from experts in infrastructure and resilience. The program is designed to help communities strengthen climate resilience, improve energy performance, enhance emergency preparedness and support reliable operations during emergencies.

Support may be relevant to projects such as firehall upgrades, emergency power, air filtration, wildfire-resilient materials, energy-efficiency improvements, and other measures that reduce climate-related risks and improve infrastructure resilience.

The program is intended for fire departments and municipalities serving communities of approximately 30,000 residents or fewer that have a planned or in-progress infrastructure project.

Eligible activities/projects:

Technical consulting may support infrastructure projects involving:

• Firehall upgrades
• Emergency power systems
• Air filtration
• Wildfire-resilient materials
• Energy efficiency improvements
• Climate risk reduction
• Other facility or system upgrades that support climate resilience and reliable emergency operations

The program provides technical consulting services rather than direct project funding.

Eligible applicants:

• Fire departments
• Municipalities/regional municipalities serving communities of approximately 30,000 residents or fewer

Applicants must have a planned or in-progress infrastructure project.

Eligibility requirements:

• The applicant must be a fire department or municipality/regional municipality serving a community of approximately 30,000 residents or fewer.
• The applicant must have a planned or active infrastructure project that could benefit from technical support.
• CAFC membership is required.
• CAFC may offset membership costs for small fire departments that have never previously held CAFC membership and may not be able to purchase a membership.
