Description

The Growth and Renewal for Infrastructure Development Program (GRID) supports priority municipal infrastructure projects in Nova Scotia that address critical capacity issues, improve accessibility, build adaptable communities, and enable the preservation and expansion of services to support housing.

Established as part of the renewed Service Exchange Agreement between the Province and municipalities, GRID provides application-based funding to help local governments invest in essential infrastructure that aligns with provincial priorities.

Projects must focus on municipal infrastructure in the following areas:

  1. Water, Wastewater, Stormwater
    • Construction, expansion and/or renewal of facilities for treatment and disposal of sanitary sewage
    • Sanitary sewage collection systems
    • Water intake, treatment, pumping and storage facilities
    • Water transmission and distribution systems
    • Storm sewers construction, expansion and/or renewal
    • Infrastructure reducing/eliminating combined sewer overflows
  2. Climate Change Adaptation:
    • Capital project recommendations from climate hazard/risk assessments
    • Coastal and inland flooding adaptations
  3. Accessibility:
    • Capital projects required to comply with Accessibility Act
    • Projects supported by accessibility plans
    • Accessibility improvements to municipal infrastructure including sidewalks and active transportation (excluding fleet)

Funding Priority Areas:

  • Shovel-ready projects addressing critical capacity issues
  • Health and safety improvements
  • Service expansion projects
  • Accessible and adaptable community infrastructure
  • Projects enabling and/or preserving housing

Project Requirements:

  • Must address critical capacity issues, health and safety, service expansion, accessibility, or housing enablement/preservation
  • Must demonstrate ability to cover remaining project costs through municipal and/or other funding sources
  • Preference given to projects where funding sources are secured or project can proceed without other funding
  • Only one active project per applicant at any time
  • Project must be completed by March 31, 2027
