This funding helps affordable housing providers complete the assessments and planning needed before undertaking deep energy retrofit projects. Grants support pre-construction activities that evaluate technical, financial, and implementation approaches to achieve significant energy savings and greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions.
Objectives
Prepare affordable housing retrofit projects for implementation.
Support deep energy and GHG reductions in existing buildings.
Evaluate the technical, financial, environmental, and social feasibility of retrofit projects.
Build organizational capacity for sustainable retrofit planning.
Eligible Projects
Project planning and coordination.
Technical assessments, engineering studies, and energy modelling.
Design development and cost estimating.
Financial and funding analysis.
Site assessments.
Community, resident, and equity-focused engagement.
Climate risk, resilience, and mitigation planning.
Procurement and partnership planning.
Capacity development activities.
Projects must support retrofit projects designed to achieve:
At least 50% annual GHG reductions, and/or
At least 40% annual energy reductions.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
Own or manage eligible affordable housing.
Propose a retrofit study that supports an eligible deep energy retrofit project.
Demonstrate the project can meet the program's minimum energy or GHG reduction targets.
Submit a pre-application before being invited to submit a full application.
Up to $200,000 for a single building. Up to $350,000 for a portfolio of buildings. Covers up to 80% of eligible costs (up to 100% for eligible Indigenous communities).
