Description

The Energy Innovation Program's Innovation Ecosystem Enablers stream supports projects that strengthen Canada's energy innovation ecosystem and accelerate the transition of innovative energy solutions from development to deployment.

Objectives:

  • Strengthen Canada's capacity to develop and commercialize innovative energy solutions.
  • Address gaps in shared infrastructure, technical capacity, market confidence, and policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Reduce reliance on foreign testing facilities and strengthen Canadian energy value chains.
  • Support broadly accessible testing and validation infrastructure for energy innovators.

Eligible Projects
Projects must establish, expand, or modernize testing facilities that:

  • Provide technology testing, validation, and performance verification services.
  • Support demonstration, pilot testing, prototyping, and technology scale-up.
  • Offer certification, standards testing, or system integration validation services.
  • Address a demonstrated gap in Canada's energy innovation ecosystem.
  • Provide services to external users beyond the facility owner.
  • Demonstrate long-term operational sustainability.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Applicant must be a Canadian eligible organization responsible for the facility.
  • Facility must be located in Canada.
  • Project must address a demonstrated testing or validation gap.
  • Services must be accessible to external users.
  • Project must demonstrate long-term operational sustainability.
  • Non-NRCan funding sources must be identified.

Funding Details
  • Estimated Amount Per Fund
    $1 million–$10 million per project, covering up to 50% of eligible costs (up to 100% for Indigenous applicants).

    • Selected applicants will be invited to submit a Full Project Proposal (FPP).
    • Both stages are reviewed by a Technical Review Committee, with applications assessed as they are received until available funding is allocated.
