Kal’s RePlay Fund supports community infrastructure projects that incorporate recycled rubber products. Since 2019, the fund has supported projects by non-profits, school boards, First Nations and municipalities, using more than 900 tonnes of recycled rubber to improve local communities.

Funding is intended to help offset the premium or additional cost associated with using recycled rubber products. The fund does not necessarily cover the full cost of recycled rubber materials.

Applicants must obtain quotes from third-party recycled rubber suppliers before applying. Kal Tire lists preferred suppliers, although other Canadian products or suppliers may also be considered.

There is no fixed funding amount. Grant amounts depend on the number and quality of applications received. For larger projects, such as playground surfaces, grants typically range from $18,000 to $20,000.

The fund is intended to help cover the premium or additional cost of recycled rubber products and may not cover 100% of those costs.

Eligible activities/projects:
Projects involving public infrastructure upgrades that use recycled rubber products, such as recycled rubber playground surfaces.

Application requirements:

• Obtain quotes from third-party recycled rubber suppliers.
• Enter the cost of the recycled rubber product, including freight and installation, in the application.
• Obtain the estimated weight of recycled rubber required from the supplier, including the equivalent number of scrap tires diverted from landfill.
• Provide more than one supplier quote where possible. If only one supplier operates in the applicant's area, one quote is acceptable.
