The Off-Highway Vehicle Infrastructure Fund (OHVIF) supports the development, planning, design and maintenance of OHV trails and riding areas in Nova Scotia. The fund promotes safe, quality and environmentally responsible infrastructure, shared use and management, community participation, sustainable trail maintenance and reasonable public access.

The program also aims to reduce land-use conflicts and inappropriate OHV use by supporting approved OHV trails and riding areas.

Eligible projects include:

• OHV trail and riding area development
• Planning, design and engineering associated with trail and riding-area facilities
• Maintenance of OHV-accessible infrastructure
• Fittings, buildings and equipment essential to making trails and riding areas operational

Projects should demonstrate consideration of environmental protection, landowner concerns, partnerships, sustainability and public access.

Eligibility requirements:
Not-for-profit applicants must be members in good standing of one of the eligible provincial OHV or trail organizations.

Projects should follow provincial trail guidelines and the principles of safe, environmentally responsible and sustainable trail development.

Funding:
Projects are generally eligible for up to 50% of total project costs, normally to a maximum of $50,000 per fiscal year.

Exceptional requests for more than $50,000 and/or more than 50% of project costs may be considered on a case-by-case basis where there is a high overall cash outlay.

Multi-year funding may be available where a multi-year development plan is submitted.

In-kind administration may be claimed up to 10% of requested OHVIF funding, to a maximum of $5,000.
