Description

This program supports Nova Scotia municipalities and waste-resource management regions in improving the efficiency of diversion programs and facilities within the solid waste system. Funding is provided to research, develop, and implement projects that reduce or maintain waste management costs while enhancing service effectiveness.

Program Objectives:

  • Improve efficiency of municipal diversion programs and facilities
  • Support research, development, and implementation of efficiency-focused projects
  • Encourage regional collaboration and shared service models
  • Reduce or maintain waste management costs
  • Strengthen the overall effectiveness of Nova Scotia’s waste-resource management system

Program Requirements:

  • Applicants must be Nova Scotia municipalities or waste-resource management regions
  • Projects must focus on improving efficiency in diversion systems or services
  • Applications must demonstrate alignment with waste reduction and diversion goals
  • Eligible costs must be incremental, essential, and fair market value
  • Projects must not duplicate funding from other Divert NS programs
Eligibility Requirements

Eligible expenses:

  • Operational costs to implement a new program
  • Project-essential meetings and travel
  • Project-specific communication and educational outreach
  • Essential equipment approved by the Committee
  • Third-party consulting fees
  • In-kind contributions deemed essential and fair market value

Ineligible activities and expenses:

  • Land purchases
  • Depreciation costs
  • General-purpose vehicles
  • Any costs not deemed essential by the Committee
  • Projects already funded through other Divert NS programs or contracts

    • Funding covers a minimum of 50% of eligible project costs
    • Projects with high strategic value may receive additional funding support
    • Funding is provided as non-repayable contributions
    • Asset purchases may be conditionally repayable
