Description

The Municipal Efficiency & Adoption Funding Program supports initiatives that improve the efficiency of diversion programs and facilities within Nova Scotia’s municipal solid waste-resource management system. Funding is intended to assist municipalities and waste-resource management regions in researching, developing, and implementing projects that maintain or reduce waste management costs associated with diversion programs and services.

Program Objectives:

  • Support the development and implementation of more efficient diversion systems, services, and processes.
  • Encourage regional collaboration and shared-service approaches among municipalities and waste-resource management regions.
  • Reduce or stabilize operational costs related to diversion programs and facilities.
  • Improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of waste-resource management systems in Nova Scotia.
  • Support innovation and strategic initiatives that strengthen long-term diversion performance.

Program Requirements:

  • Applicant and contact information
  • Project details, timeline, and required permits
  • A summary of how the project supports Nova Scotia waste-diversion goals
  • Project budget and funding request
  • Information on partners, personnel, and other funding sources
  • A detailed project proposal (maximum 20 pages) including project description, timeline, budget, and supporting documentation.
Eligibility Requirements

Eligible expenses:

  • Operational costs for implementing new regional processes or shared services
  • Essential project meetings and travel expenses
  • Third-party consulting fees
  • Project-specific communication and educational outreach activities
  • Essential project assets approved by the Committee
  • Eligible in-kind contributions that are essential, fair market value, and non-fraudulent

Ineligible activities and expenses:

  • Land purchases
  • Depreciation expenses
  • General-purpose vehicles
  • Any costs not considered essential by the Committee
  • Projects already funded through another existing Divert NS funding contract or program
