Description

The Municipal Fleet Electrification Study stream provides funding to assess the feasibility of transitioning to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) including battery-electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. This comprehensive study will help municipalities develop a strategic approach to fleet electrification while analyzing lifecycle costs, GHG emission reductions, and potential economic, social, and environmental impacts.

The study must assess the entire municipal and/or transit fleet and develop a fleet transition plan with baseline assessments, optimal replacement timelines, and charging/fueling infrastructure needs. Projects must also identify downsizing opportunities and include an equity assessment examining impacts on equity-deserving groups.

Key Study Requirements:

  • Assess entire municipal and/or transit fleet
  • Develop comprehensive fleet transition plan with baseline fuel consumption, operating costs, and GHG emissions analysis
  • Model optimized scenarios including fleet downsizing and right-sizing options
  • Identify charging or fueling infrastructure needs for each vehicle category
  • Include equity assessment addressing impacts on different community groups

Project Requirements:

  • Study must assess transition to ZEVs to significantly reduce GHG emissions in line with Canada's 2030 and 2050 targets
  • Must include assessment of economic, social, and environmental impacts
  • Climate resilience requirements: projects with new infrastructure assets over $2 million must conduct Climate Risk Assessment
  • Applications accepted year-round until funding allocated
