Description

The Build Communities Strong Fund Direct Delivery stream will provide $6 billion over 10 years beginning in 2026–27 to support regionally significant infrastructure, climate adaptation, and community infrastructure projects. The program focuses on shovel-ready projects that strengthen community resilience, support sustainable economic development, and improve environmental and social outcomes. Eligible recipients include municipalities, provinces and territories, Indigenous communities, not-for-profit organizations, and private-sector entities working with eligible public-sector partners.

Program Objectives:

  • Support regionally significant infrastructure projects across Canada.
  • Strengthen community resilience and climate adaptation capacity.
  • Support sustainable economic development and community growth.
  • Enhance environmental outcomes and public infrastructure renewal.
  • Improve cultural and social vitality within communities and regions.
  • Accelerate infrastructure delivery through shovel-ready projects.

Program Requirements:

  • Projects must be shovel-ready.
  • Construction must be able to begin within 12 months.
  • Projects must have Class C cost estimates at a minimum.
  • Project must support regionally significant infrastructure, climate adaptation, or community infrastructure objectives.
  • Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest with all required applicant and project information.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Applicant must be a municipality, province, territory, Indigenous community, not-for-profit organization, or eligible partner organization.
  • Private sector applicants must partner with an eligible public sector or Indigenous recipient.
  • Applicant must be responsible for implementing the project.
  • Applicant must own, or intend to own, the project asset(s).
  • Projects already under construction are not eligible.

    • The federal government may consider opportunities to leverage private investment, including financing through the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
    • Funding amounts, cost-share requirements, and maximum contribution limits have not yet been published.
