Description

CHARGED (formerly the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Support Program) provides rebates up to 50% on purchase and installation costs of electric vehicle charging stations across Canada.

Pollution Probe serves as a third-party delivery organization distributing funding on behalf of Natural Resources Canada's Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). The program partners with FLO, Canada's leading EV charging station provider, as the preferred equipment supplier.

Current Program Status:

Funding for fiscal year 2025-26 is available only for projects in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador. Projects must be completed before March 31, 2026.

Program Objectives:

  • Accelerate transition to zero-emission transportation in Canada
  • Increase availability of publicly accessible EV charging infrastructure
  • Support purchase and installation of connected EV charging stations
  • Prioritize under-served locations across NS and NL

Eligible Installation Locations:

1. Public places Parking areas intended for public use (privately or publicly owned/operated), including service stations, retail outlets, restaurants, community centres, libraries, medical offices, parks, etc.

2. On-street Curbside charging infrastructure for public use managed by local governments.

3. Workplaces Locations where employees perform job duties. Charging infrastructure must be primarily used by employees. (Private residences not eligible even if business registered at same address.)

4. Light-duty vehicle fleets Fleet vehicles (GVWR ≤ 3,856 kg) owned or leased by organizations for business operations, including taxis, car rentals, municipal vehicles, car sharing, etc.

5. Multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) Infrastructure in parking spaces where people live. Buildings must include minimum 3 dwelling units.

Key Program Requirements:

  • All charging stations must be connected (able to communicate with other stations/servers/cloud)
  • DC fast charging stations must include at least one CHAdeMO or SAE Combo/CCS connector
  • Stations must be owned by applicant/funding recipient
  • Must be new or expanded charging sites (not replacements)
  • All stations must be operational by March 31, 2026
  • Projects beginning before signed funding agreement are ineligible
  • Reimbursements apply only to expenses incurred between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026

Ineligible Recipients:

Individuals, single-family homeowners, and federal government departments cannot apply.

Eligible expenses:

  • Professional services (engineering, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, training, marketing, data collection)
  • Capital expenses (equipment, infrastructure, informatics)
  • Rental fees or leasing costs
  • License fees and permits
  • Environmental assessment costs
  • GST, PST, HST (net of rebates/input tax credits)
