This dedicated funding stream supports community engagement initiatives and war memorial projects that commemorate the legacy, achievements, and sacrifices of the No. 2 Construction Battalion. Funding is available to eligible non-profit and for-profit organizations, as well as Canadian provinces, territories, and municipalities, for time-limited projects with defined start and end dates. Supported through the Department of National Defence and administered by Veterans Affairs Canada, the program aims to preserve and promote awareness of Canada’s military history and contributions. Funding may support commemorative activities, the development of commemorative materials, and the construction, restoration, or expansion of community war memorials.
Note: Dedicated funding is being provided by the Department of National Defence and is based on a recommendation from the National Apology Advisory Committee.
Community Engagement Funding:
Supports remembrance initiatives, including commemorative activities (events, ceremonies) and development of commemorative materials (learning resources, educational programs). Projects must engage youth, Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces members, and/or the general public to recognize service and sacrifice.
Community War Memorial Funding:
Supports the construction, restoration or expansion of community war memorials. Priority is given to expenditures related to the structure, accessibility and safety of memorial sites. War memorial projects require bilingual inscriptions for new construction and must demonstrate ownership and arrangements for ongoing maintenance.
Project Requirements:
Eligible Expenditures:
Professional fees, administrative costs, equipment and facility rental, reasonable hospitality, travel costs, material development and distribution, salaries/wages, and construction costs for permanent exhibits.
War Memorial projects may include: professional fees, administrative costs, equipment and machinery rental, travel costs, salaries/wages, design or assessment fees, monument relocation costs when warranted, and construction expenditures.
Ineligible Expenditures:
International air travel, land or building purchases, operational/fundraising costs, book publishing, documentary production, insurance, landscaping for enhancement purposes (war memorials), and projects on federal land (except Reserves).
