Description

Tree Canada's Community Tree Grants program supports schools, community groups, Indigenous communities and municipalities across Canada with tree planting and green infrastructure projects. The program provides funding and technical support to help organizations start, upgrade, or achieve their greening goals through three distinct funding streams.

All funded projects receive pairing with a local Forestry Specialist who provides guidance and recommendations, plus access to free webinars covering site selection, species selection, and long-term care and maintenance.

Stream 1: Greening Canada's School Grounds

Supports school greening projects that enhance the learning experience for students and strengthen their relationship with nature. Projects can include creating outdoor classrooms, arboretums for hands-on learning and transforming barren schoolyards into living learning spaces.

Eligible Applicants: Educational institutions including elementary/primary schools, high schools, universities, colleges, and training centers

Eligible Projects: Tree and shrub planting on educational institution properties

Stream 2: Edible Trees

Eligible Applicants: Educational institutions, Indigenous communities, community groups or gardens, food banks, community housing projects, municipalities and other groups planting edible trees on publicly accessible sites

Eligible Projects: Planting fruit- and nut-bearing trees on publicly accessible sites to increase access to healthy food

Stream 3: Treemendous Communities

Encourages and supports community tree planting projects that create long-lasting benefits where people live, work or play. Since 1992, Tree Canada has greened more than 730 municipalities, Indigenous communities and business improvement areas.

Eligible Applicants: Canadian municipalities, Indigenous communities, business improvement associations, non-profit organizations and community groups
