Description

The Diversity and Community Capacity Fund (DCCF) and Community and Cultural Identities Fund (CCIF) are companion programs supporting organizations that promote diversity, cultural expression and social equity in Nova Scotia. DCCF invests in capacity-building efforts of organizations representing traditionally marginalized communities, while CCIF supports activities that recognize and celebrate the diversity of Nova Scotia's new, emerging and established cultural communities.

Program Objectives:

  • Increase access to programs and services that support equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Build capacity of organizations to represent traditionally marginalized groups
  • Share, explore and preserve cultural identities
  • Increase public understanding, through education, of traditionally marginalized groups and communities in Nova Scotia
  • Grow Nova Scotians' awareness and understanding of the province's cultural communities
  • Build capacity of organizations to host events/activities that promote social inclusion
  • Celebrate or observe cultural traditions for all Nova Scotians
  • Increase understanding of cultural diversity

Program Requirements:

  • All projects must have defined start and end dates
  • Applicants strongly encouraged to speak with Program Officer before applying
  • Applications must clearly explain how proposed activity supports one or more program themes
  • Projects should demonstrate clear, realistic and achievable goals and deliverables
  • Lasting impacts must be identified (what will be learned by end of project)
  • Must explain who will participate and benefit from project
  • Must demonstrate how work will be evaluated or measured
  • Consider accessibility and environment when planning project or event

Faith-based organizations: Eligible for projects building awareness and understanding. Stand-alone religious practices are not eligible activities.

Public schools: May be eligible if project/activity takes place outside regular school hours and is not part of regular school-based programs.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible expenses:

  • Activities directly related to project goals and objectives
  • Project-specific costs directly tied to approved activities (e.g., supplies, facility rental, professional fees)

Ineligible activities and expenses:

  • Fundraising events or activities
  • Operating expenses (salaries, heat, rent)
  • Projects/activities where religion and religious celebration are primary focus
  • Major building development or major equipment purchases
  • Projects where main objective is employment
  • Costs and expenses incurred prior to deadline date
  • Research, studies, focus groups or public meetings (programs intended to support action-oriented activities)

Funding Details
  • Estimated amount per fund
    Tier 1: Up to $5,000; Tier 2: $5,001 to $10,000
  • Funding Notes
    • Tier 1 (requests up to $5,000):
    • • No cash contribution required
    • • Minimum 15% in-kind contribution required
    • Tier 2 (requests $5,001 to $10,000):
    • •  Funding requests cannot exceed 75% of eligible costs
    • • Combined public sector contributions cannot exceed 90%
    • • Minimum 10% cash contribution from applicant required
