Description

Emergency Service Regional Funding provides up to $200,000 for regional emergency service projects led by a first responder organization in partnership with a municipality. Funding supports initiatives that strengthen coordinated preparedness, response, recovery, and risk reduction across multiple emergency response organizations within a region.

Eligible applicants:

First responder organizations in Nova Scotia, in partnership with a municipality, including:

  • Fire departments
  • Ground Search and Rescue
  • HAZMAT
  • other first responder organizations

Eligible projects

  • Shared regional equipment and specialized vehicles
  • Training facilities
  • Mobile command units
  • Risk reduction and public education initiatives
  • FireSmart enhancements
  • Regional training exercises
  • Hazard analyses
  • Mental health resiliency programs

Ineligible costs

  • Operating/administrative expenses
  • Firefighting apparatus
  • Passenger vehicles
  • Vehicle upgrades
  • Equipment not directly related to emergency response
Eligibility Requirements
  • Applicant must be a fire department, Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) organization, HAZMAT organization, or other eligible first responder organization in Nova Scotia.
  • The application must be submitted in partnership with a municipality.
  • Organizations must be in compliance with all reporting requirements, including fire incident reporting, before applying.
  • Applicants that received funding through the program in 2025–26 may be subject to restrictions (except fire departments, GSAR, and HAZMAT organizations, which are specifically listed as eligible recipients).
  • Recipients must obtain any required insurance and permits before the project begins.
