Description

The Recreation Community Development Grant supports activities and initiatives that respond to recreation and physical activity goals and priorities of communities, aligned with the Shared Strategy for Recreation in Nova Scotia: Active Living, Inclusion and Access, Connecting People and Nature, Supportive Environments and Capacity Development.

The program is designed to support initiatives that improve quality of life for Nova Scotians through sport, physical activity and recreation. Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage is committed to ensuring programs and services are free of discrimination and barriers, and value equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA).

Eligible Projects:

  • Leadership education and capacity development
  • Marketing and awareness campaigns
  • Organizational and partnership development
  • Program or policy development and implementation
  • Resource development, planning and evaluation
  • Equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility work in recreation

Ineligible Projects:

  • School curriculum components and sport teams
  • Capital construction projects
  • Sponsorship of tables or events
  • Uniforms and team travel

Project Requirements:

  • Projects must be completed between April 1 and March 1 of the approved fiscal year
  • Project end dates must be before March 1 of the following calendar year (e.g., projects funded in 2025 must end before March 1, 2026)
  • Applicants strongly encouraged to contact Regional Manager before applying
  • Complete application required before consideration
  • Final report required upon project completion (written report and financial statement)

Additional conditions:

  • Applicants may apply annually for same initiative for maximum of 3 years if project shows progress and growth
  • Total provincial government contribution (all sources) cannot exceed 75% of total project cost
  • Unused funds must be returned if project not completed

Funding Details
  • Estimated amount per fund
    Up to $10,000 per year
  • Funding Notes
    • Registered non-profits: Up to 75 % of eligible costs
    • Other applicants: Up to 50 % of project costs (may be considered for up to 75% under special circumstances)
    • Total provincial contributions cannot exceed 75 % of total project costs
