Description

The Projects component provides funding to community-based initiatives that address systemic racism, discrimination, or hate by effecting sustainable change to promote the value of diversity and foster inclusion and a sense of belonging in Canada.

This component has been updated to align with Canada's Anti-Racism Strategy 2024-2028 and Canada's Action Plan on Combating Hate.

The Projects component operates through two distinct funding calls:

Anti-Racism Call

This call addresses systemic racism and discrimination in Canada's cultural sector by:

  • Enhancing access to and inclusivity within arts, culture, and heritage organizations and institutions
  • Addressing systemic racism and discrimination in creative industry workplaces
  • Supporting Indigenous Peoples, Black communities, and other racialized and religious minority communities
  • Considering intersectionality in addressing barriers

This stream targets systemic barriers within cultural and creative sector institutions and workplaces.

Anti-Hate Call

This call empowers communities to prevent and address hate by:

  • Fostering inclusion, resilience, and unity through community-led, intersectional projects
  • Reducing social isolation and fragmentation
  • Reinforcing collective identity
  • Building a more inclusive, socially cohesive and united Canada

This stream focuses on community-led efforts that prevent hate, reduce polarization, and strengthen social cohesion at the grassroots level.

Enhanced Protocols:

Canadian Heritage has implemented enhanced protocols to ensure that organizations adopting racist, antisemitic, or other forms of hateful content are not eligible for government funding.
